Practical Application 2
Earl Cato
A Flute Supplement
To Flute, or not to Flute
Vibrato
Sh, Sh, sh
Here is a way to practice and develop the technique called "vibrato". This adds a wave to your tone.
1. Put your hand a about twleve inches in front of your face with palms facing you.
2. Concentrate on moving your air using the sound "sh". Try blowing three times, pause then repeat.
3. Next with you flute playing a "G" try the same exercise focusing on your air.
4. As you gradual start to increase the speed of waves, you will notice a smooth vibrato tone.

4 note tongued and 4 note staccato
This time we will try tonguing to another variation called staccato. The four notes from G - C (fingerings below) will be played. Tongue first by simply using the word "too" to start the tone. When trying staccato, aim to create a light seperation of space between each pitch
