Euphonium Choices and Accessories

ASSEMBLY

  1. Open your case right side up. Check the latches and make sure they are right side up before opening the case.

  2. Hold the instrument with the left hand around the valves. Hold the mouthpiece with the right hand and gently place it into the mouthpiece receiver.

  3. Gently turn the mouthpiece to make sure it is snug.

Important Point

Do not push the mouthpiece into the receiver by hitting it, patting it, or smacking it.

MOISTURE

After each time you play, regularly open up each water key and blow fast air through the instrument. Be sure not to buzz, just blow air. The excess can be wiped away with a soft cloth.

SLIDE GREASE

Tuning slides need to be greased regularly. Before you pull out a slide depress one of your valves to relieve any pressure. You do not want to hear a "pop" sound. Pull out a tuning slide, wipe it down with a clean cloth, and apply a thin layer of slide grease. Apply the slide grease evenly by using your finger and move it around the surfaace of the slide. Gently insert the slide back evenly.

If you do not do this once every few weeks, your tuning slide may get stuck. Over time if not maintain rust and deterioration will cause problems with your slide. This is a very expensive and time-consuming repair,

POLISH

From time to time, the euphonium might need to be wiped to remove any excess build up on the surface of the instrument. You can take a soft lint-free cloth and wipe the surface and the inside of the bell. You can also purchase special polishing cloths made of safe materials.
