Education: Bachelors of Arts in Music, (Composition) California State University East Bay. He has studied Clarinet with William Wohlmacher and Diane Maltester,  Composition with Dr. Rafael Hernandez and Dr. Frank La Rocca. He has played in CSUEB Jazz Ensembles led by Dave Eshelman and Johannes Wallman,  Wind Ensembles led by Professor Tim Smith and Professor Wesley Broadnax.  He also had the pleasure of performing as a member of the Choir Department under 
Choral Director, Professor Buddy James. California Teaching 
Credential in Music from CSUEB.

 

 

E. Ronnie Cato has been teaching clarinet and saxophone students for 10 years. Cato has served in various positions such as Elementary Music, Chorus and Classroom Music.  He has spent five years as a Middle School Instrumental Music teacher.  Currently, Mr. Cato divides his day as the Orchestra Director at Mt Eden High School (9th -12th grade) where he  has served for the past eight years. Also teaching Classroom Music and Chorus at Lorin Eden Elementary where he has served the past five years.  He has directed and taken his Mt Eden High School string ensembles to Segerstrom Center‎ for the Arts and Davies Symphony Hall. In 2009, his wrote a concert band piece, Casus Belli which was premiered in Carnegie Hall as part of the Heritage Festival of Gold.  He was chosen as a nominee in the 2012 Comcast All Star Teacher Contest. In March 2016, he led his Chamber Orchestra to Music For All, National Chamber Music Festival.  The same ensemble earned the  Encore Instrumental Performance at the Hawaii Pacific Basin Festival hosted by World Projects

 


Music is a common thread among the different cultures in the Bay Area. Earl R Cato dedicates much of his time working with his students and providing them opportunities to develop their knowledge through musical understanding. The Bay Area offers many entertaining and enlightening activities such as The SF Symphony, Golden State Warriors, SF Jazz Center and many others great live music venues.  He also enjoys the many culinary possibilities that abound in the diverse surroundings of the Bay Area. Cato is currently pursuing his Masters Degree at the American Band College of Sam Houston University.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Euphonium Student Model - Maxwell Finley

 

 

Maxwell Finley is currently a senior musician at Mt Eden High School. He has been a student of Earl Cato for the past four years. He has played Flute, Euphonium, Guitar and currently French Horn. Max is a very creative individual and has great outgoing personality. He has recently started pursuing guitar and has started writing songs and playing in a rock band.
